Paddle Power! 24-hour canoeathon raises funds for Manx Mencap

24-hour canoeing challenge in Ramsey raised funds for Manx Mencap.
Martin Malone, International Client Relationship & Distribution Manager at Zurich on the Isle of Man, began paddling at Mooragh Park. He was joined by members of the Expedition Limitless 2024 team, who each took a two-hour turn as part of the canoe’s 2-person crew.
Over the last few months Martin built the canoe himself as part of the challenge to raise money for Manx Mencap. All the funds raised by the challenge will be match-funded by the Z Zurich Foundation which is a charitable foundation established by members of the Zurich Insurance Group. It is the main vehicle by which Zurich Insurance Group delivers on its global community investment strategy.
The canoeathon was useful training for Martin and the Expedition Limitless team in preparation for their next big fundraising adventure in May this year. A team of 12 – all from the Isle of Man – will be travelling 715km along a section of the Yukon River in Canada. The river is famous for its history during the ‘Gold Rush’ in the late 1800s. After taking part in Expedition Limitless 2023, which saw a team of 12 take on a trek across the Arctic, Martin is now leading the new team on its latest adventure.
The team aims to raise £100,000 for Manx Mencap, and Saturday’s canoeathon helped to get them closer to that target. The running total was £23,908 at the time of writing. Click here to donate to Martin’s MyImpact fundraiser where all funds with be matched by the Z Zurich Foundation.
